Houston Food Bank is excited to be an official 2027 Run for a Reason charity! Please join our Run For Food team and help us mitigate food insecurity in our communities. Every $1 donated provides 3 meals for our neighbors in need. Join us in our mission of providing food for better lives!
FAQ:
Q: I have never run for a charity. How does it work?
You have two options when it comes to how you sign up through a charity:
First, you can fundraise for registration (FFR), where the charity you sign up with pays your registration fee. In return, you commit to raising money for our cause. The minimum fundraising commitment varies by charity, but ours is $300 for the 5K and $600 for the marathon or half marathon. Your deadline to raise the funds is January 5, 2027.
Second, you can register as a HERO runner, where you pay the registration fee + a $350 donation to Houston Food Bank to secure your spot. This secures you the following benefits:
o Private pre-race restrooms
o HERO goodie bag
o HERO back bib
o Post-race massage
Q: How do I transfer the money I raise to Houston Food Bank?
You don’t have to handle any of that. Once you register, you’ll receive your own personal fundraising page. Every donation made through your page is automatically tracked and sent directly to Houston Food Bank.
Q: What do I get for being part of the team?
You get to help your fellow Houstonians! You’ll also have access to our private team Facebook group for training tips, tools, and support. You’ll receive an official team tech shirt, get invited to runner socials, and have the chance to earn VIP (HERO) runner perks during marathon weekend.
Q: I already signed up for one of the Chevron races. Can I switch to the Run for Food team?
YES! Email mspera@houstonfoodbank.org and we’ll help with the switch.
