Help New Yorkers For Children support youth aging out of foster care and build a better child welfare community for us all!
NYFC
was established in 1996 to fill in gaps in New York City’s child welfare system
that government funding alone cannot support. NYFC's mission is to protect, ensure, and promote the safety and well-being
of NYC’s children and families, with a focus on older youth in foster care. NYFC's programs focus on youth aging out of care include direct scholarships, innovative pilot programs, and wraparound services such as
academic coaching, mental health support, and emergency funding. With our support, youth can successfully transition to adulthood and overcome barriers that people aging out of foster care face including in housing, education, healthcare, parenting, and criminal justice involvement. Statistics show that after aging out of the system 20% of youth who have experienced foster care will experience homelessness, and only 3% will earn a college degree.
Since its inception,
NYFC has distributed more than $70 million in funds to support youth in care and those who have aged out, including $8 million in scholarship funds to promote
post-secondary education.
