At Odyssey House, we encourage people in recovery to participate in fitness programs as varied as long-distance running, weight training, Pilates, and yoga. The payoff, in terms of relapse prevention, program retention, and improved health indicators, is more than promising.
This year, a team of runners in treatment for substance use disorders will take on the ultimate challenge – the grueling 26.2-mile TCS NYC Marathon, the biggest one-day sports event in the city. These runners are our elite athletes. They have been training for this day for months. They are out to prove to themselves that they are not powerless over addiction, that treatment works, and people in recovery are goal-oriented, successful people.
This is no small accomplishment for men and women who have been battling substance use disorders for years. We’re proud of our Marathon team and hope you will consider supporting them. Your contribution will help us provide more than just the essential equipment every runner needs (sneakers, entry fees, and race uniforms); it will also fund the health and fitness services that ALL residents in treatment at Odyssey House benefit from.
