Founded in 1978, the mission of Ronald
McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Greater Houston is to offer a home away from
home providing care, compassion, and hope to families with seriously ill
children being treated in Texas Medical Center (TMC) member institutions. The
TMC attracts families facing a health crisis from the Houston area, throughout
Texas, the United States, and around the world. Securing safe, comfortable, and
affordable housing while a child receives treatment or recovers from major
surgery, creates emotional and financial stress. No matter how financially
stable a family is, the worries of a child’s health and the related expenses
add up exponentially – medical, travel, lodging, food, gas, parking, sibling
care/activities – the family can be quickly overwhelmed. Much like a house with
a big family, RMHC Greater Houston offers a large kitchen, complimentary hot
meals, and dining areas for planning or ending your day, communal living spaces
for sharing stories and activities, and plenty of nooks for hugs and
high-fives. Helping to foster positive, hopeful feelings and possibly embrace a
new friend from down the hall, this family-centered care environment is vital
for a journey towards a healthy future.
In addition to our support to families
receiving care, we partner with Texas Children's Hospital to provide a
Care Mobile. For children and families without access to medical care, our
Ronald McDonald Care Mobile program provides a fully equipped medical clinic on
wheels that delivers free care directly to underserved, school-aged children
right in their own neighborhoods.
