The Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA) was founded in 2000 by Dr. Mark and Patricia Thornton, along with Dr. John Brooks, when their 3-year-old Jeffrey Thornton was diagnosed with sarcoma. Faced with the stark reality of limited resources and advocacy for sarcoma patients, they took action to create an organization that would not only support Jeffrey but would also become a lifeline for countless others affected by this often-overlooked disease.
Today, the SFA is recognized as the largest and most visible organization dedicated to sarcoma. Our mission is to improve outcomes for people diagnosed with sarcoma to increase the number of survivors. We do this by funding and advancing research, educating and providing resources for people diagnosed with sarcoma, advocating on behalf of the community, bringing together the collective sarcoma voice, and growing awareness about the disease.
As the largest and most visible sarcoma organization, SFA is the first line resource for all things sarcoma.
