We are thrilled to participate for the fourth year as an Official Charity for Run for a Reason! The past three years have been so good to Steel Magnolia Moms – we won Chevron’s $25,000 charity match for raising the most money in 10 days in 2024, and we raised enough money in 2023 and 2024 to land in second place out of more than 60 charities. We can’t wait to see what 2025 will bring with your support! We are so thankful to our team, our community, and our donors who helped us cross the finish line with flying colors! For 2025, we have our eyes set on getting back to first place, and we hope you will help us get there.
The mission of Steel Magnolia Moms is to positively support its members in sharing the joys and challenges of raising a child with special needs. We do this through an invaluable combination of community and outreach programming, including group and individual mental health services, wellness and respite activities, legal and advocacy advice, resources during inpatient hospital stays, and scholarships for member children to attend summer camps.
Here's a snapshot of the impact we made on moms and families in the last year with the funds you help us to raise:
- Supported 39 families by sending 42 kids with special needs to summer camp
- Covered the cost of over 200 private therapy sessions for moms
- Awarded 5 deserving moms with a Magnolia Makeover
- Hosted multiple social and respite events to allow moms to connect and recharge
More than 85% of moms who have children with special needs report they have lost their sense of self. Steel Magnolia Moms hosts these programs and events to encourage moms to take a break, have fun and connect outside of motherhood to return to their authentic selves. As we've learned in our motherhood experiences, running isn't always easy and sometimes it is downright hard. But the rewards are great, and the journey is beautiful, and most importantly- we can and will do it together!
