Team “Later Linda” was planning and training for a half marathon to raise money for an organization near and dear to our hearts. However, COVID had other plans and the event was canceled.
Cancer could care less about COVID. As a result, we have decided to take on the “Team In Training’s Resilience Challenge” to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Our journey with blood cancer started in February 2018 when Anna was diagnosed with Primary Mediastinal Large B Cell Lymphoma (a type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma). This turned our world upside down. No one expects a cancer diagnosis for a healthy 24-year-old.
Anna, was newly married and had just started her own custom floral design business. Although it was one of the scariest moments of her life (and ours), Anna handled it with strength, optimism and grace.
During the first week in the hospital, waiting for the diagnosis, Brad (her husband) dubbed the cancer “Linda.” Thereafter, “Later Linda” was born.
She had a community of over 150 people supporting her by wearing “Later Linda” shirts and sending encouraging videos each time Anna was about to start another round of chemotherapy. With the support of her family, incredible community and an amazing team of doctors, Anna kicked Linda's ass in six grueling rounds of chemotherapy. Two years later, almost to the day, we are celebrating her remission anniversary with her beautiful 10-month-old son, Scout.
Because of the research LLS is funding, Anna was able to get the treatment that saved her life. Cancer does not discriminate and it does not take a day off. Blood cancer patients need our support now more than ever in these challenging times.
September is Blood Cancer Awareness month. Over the next month, we will conquer 50 miles while fundraising and raising awareness of blood cancers.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is at the forefront of the fight against cancer and provides critical support to blood cancer patients across the country. We invite you to be #TNTRESILIENT in the face of cancer by making a donation. #cancelbloodcancer
