The CAC is the only child advocacy center in Harris County and the largest in the nation. The CAC was founded in 1991, and we utilize a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to serve 7,000 children and families affected by child sexual abuse each year. Our expert staff delivers forensic interviews, family advocacy, clinical assessments, mental health services, children’s court services, and medical services all at no cost to our clients. We employ an extraordinarily effective multidisciplinary team approach by working with 60 partner agencies, including law enforcement agencies, medical and mental health professionals, advocacy nonprofits, and government entities, all with the common goal of protecting children, healing families, and preventing child sexual abuse and child sex trafficking in our community.
We call
on our community to recognize the importance of prevention and education to
protect all children from abuse. Child sexual abuse and sex trafficking happen
every day in our schools, online, and, worst of all, within our homes. Sadly,
1 in 10 children will be sexually abused before they turn 18. The CAC is
dedicated to ensuring that our community has the resources to prevent abuse and
that families have the dedicated support they need to heal from child abuse.
To truly protect children from abuse, we must raise awareness of how widespread and dangerous the issues of child sexual abuse and child sex trafficking are in our community. Once abuse has occurred, there is no taking it back. These are experiences that will change the rest of a child’s life. Every child matters. It is the responsibility of every member of our community to keep as many children safe as possible. Please help us prevent this abuse before it starts. Our children depend on you.
