The Woods Project exists to improve the life trajectories of Houston high school students from historically underserved communities, the majority of whom are people of color. Through wilderness immersion and exploration of public lands and other natural areas where people of color have been significantly underrepresented, students develop the tools they need to find their voices to work toward change.

TWP’s outdoor exploration and wilderness immersion programs create unique opportunities for students to be exposed to new experiences and ideas, develop healthy lifestyles in the outdoors, practice teamwork as they support one another in the face of challenges along the trails and learn how to work with others who may have different backgrounds and experiences. Most importantly, TWP participants learn from their experiences that each of them is capable of far more than they had ever imagined.

TWP’s year-round educational program is comprised of weekly after-school club programs, weekend overnight camping trips, two-week summer wilderness immersion experiences in nationally recognized parks and forests, and the Junior Leaders Program alumni leadership program. Click here to learn more about our program.
