Run for Westside Shepherds is a group of athletes and volunteers who participate in the LA 5K to raise awareness and funds for Westside German Shepherd Rescue of Los Angeles. Westside German Shepherd Rescue of Los Angeles is a non profit 501(c)3, no kill rescue committed to saving all types of German Shepherd Dogs from high kill shelters and adopting them to loving, qualified homes. 2025 is going to be our 11th year as a Charity Partner of the McCourt Foundation - the organization that facilitates The LA 5k, and other races. Your commitment will make a difference beyond race day! No donation is too small.
Westside German Shepherd Rescue Facts:
- Over 17,000 dogs saved since 2002.
- 185 is the average number of dogs at any one time cared for by the rescue or placed in foster homes.
- We have 50 active and some 200 occasional volunteers who help run the rescue.
- $25,000 is the average monthly vet bill, many animals arrive with infections, kennel cough, and even serious injuries.
- It costs $6,500 to feed the dogs for a month.
- $1,000 is the average cost to feed, house and care for just one animal until adoption.
- The rescue is funded mostly by donations and a small part from adoption fees.
