A MESSAGE FROM Victoria's NYC Marathon Fundraiser for Breast Cancer
Hello everyone! In November, I will be running the NYC Marathon for a cause that is exceptionally personal to me. My family is one of the many that has endured the anxiety and pain that accompany a breast cancer diagnosis. Around 10% of women who survive breast cancer see a recurrence within 5 years, making research of new treatments and more accurate screening methods crucial to keeping pace with this horrible disease.
Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Center in my home city of NYC and Michigan Medicine Rigel Cancer Center at my alma mater UofM are two institutions researching and providing the newest treatments in fighting breast cancer. My family has been blessed to benefit from the advancements made by these institutions. I will be raising money to support them through the Think Pink Rocks organization.
This is a particularly daunting goal for me, never having been a decent runner (most former swimmers will know exactly what I mean) and 26.2 miles is a distance I will have to train relentlessly to complete. But in committing to run this race for a cause so near to me, I have no other choice than to give it my all. My goal is to raise $5,000 to help families like mine. It would mean everything to me if you all would help me to reach that. Thank you!
