A MESSAGE FROM Yowana's 2024 Chicago Marathon Fundraising
Pat Tillman's service, selflessness and sacrifice has connected with me for as long as I can remember. His story is a constant reminder of the importance of service: of never compromising ideals, of never taking the path of least resistance, of putting others first.
I'm honored to be running the 2024 Chicago Marathon for the foundation started in his memory, Pat Tillman Foundation, which creates educational opportunities for veterans who've sacrificed to serve their country as well as their spouses. Thank you considering making a donation to support the cause - anything helps!
See below for more on Team Tillman and the Tillman Foundation in their own words:
Team Tillman raises money for the Pat Tillman Foundation, which invests in military veterans and their spouses through academic scholarships – building a diverse community of leaders committed to service to others.
WHO WAS PAT TILLMAN?
Pat was a professional football player who walked away from a big-money NFL contract to enlist in the U.S. Army in the wake of 9/11. In April 2004, he died serving with the 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan, and his memory lives on today through the work of the Pat Tillman Foundation.
WHAT IS THE PAT TILLMAN FOUNDATION?
Shortly after his death, Pat’s family and friends created the Pat Tillman Foundation to honor his legacy. Today the foundation focuses on supporting an incredible group of leaders – the Tillman Scholars.
WHO ARE THE TILLMAN SCHOLARS?
Tillman Scholars are a select group of service members, veterans and military spouses to whom the foundation grants academic scholarships so they can pursue their dreams of continued service - both in and out of uniform. These scholars are creating positive change in the fields of medicine, law, business, education and more.
WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH PAT TILLMAN?
Pat’s greatest legacy is a commitment to service, learning and action. These scholars are the living embodiment of those principles – leaders who will go out and change the world. That’s why your support of these scholars is not a gift, but an investment in our country and communities.
