A MESSAGE FROM Miles for Mema
Hello, all! My name is Zachary Zapata.
I am running the LA Marathon to honor my grandmother, Sylvia — who many lovingly called Mema - and to raise awareness for those battling Alzheimer's and dementia. Mema passed away in 2023 after a courageous 4-year fight with Lewy Body dementia.
She was a woman whose heart knew no bounds, always kind, always giving, and always ready to embrace those in need.
Her love and generosity shaped the lives of her grandchildren and everyone fortunate enough to know her.
I run this marathon in her memory, carrying forward her spirit of love and kindness, and to support The Longest Day, an organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.
Each mile I run is a tribute to Mema and a step towards a world without dementia. 💜
